Porcupine Adventure

A park naturalist will take participants up the Red Oak Ridge Trail to view the abandoned graphite mines. Participants will get a chance to see recent porcupine activity in and around the mines as well as their feeding quarters.

Participants should be prepared to spend time outside and are encouraged to wear adequate clothing and footwear. There is a program fee of $2 for adults and children and $1 for seniors. This steep climb will prove to be a good workout. We will enjoy a comfortable pace as we climb to the top and as we walk along we will see some great views overlooking the Hudson River.

Grab a pair of binoculars and join park staff on their weekly Bald Eagle survey. Moreau Lake State Park's section of the Hudson is home to wintering bald eagles. It is important for us to monitor their population and health, please come and help us!

A beautiful walk around a small wetland is sure to impress. While enjoying an easy hike you will have the opportunity to listen and look for wild animals. Come join the Friends of Moreau Lake State Park for their annual chili dinner. The chili dinner is a great way for patrons to learn more about Moreau Lake State Park as well as the Friends Group. We will be holding the dinner at the Moreau Community Center. This year's guest speaker is Paul Jensen, a DEC Wildlife Biologist who will be presenting on the strong and elusive fisher.

This short, moderate hike has a few steep sections, which will take participants to the top of the Palmertown Range. This overlook presents spectacular views of the Luzerne Mountains and Hudson River.
