Hug A Tree and Survive

The Hug a Tree and Survive program teaches children how to survive in the woods should they become lost. This program is appropriate for children ages 6 to 12, and lasts approximately 45 minutes. The program includes a video and demonstrations. Each child receives a survival pack with their own safety whistle. This program costs $5 per student. Registration is required. Preschool Naturalists is a nature class designed for children ages 3 to 5. This hour long program will focus on using all five senses to explore a certain aspect of the outdoor world. Children will also enjoy a nature related story and craft. Fee is $3 per person or $5 per family. Registration is required. Please call 518-584-2000 Ext. 116 to register

Guided Nature Hike: Hemlock Trail

Shake off the winter blues and join us for a walk through an old growth Hemlock forest! This easy one mile hike will feature some of the oldest and largest trees in the park. All ages are welcome, but the trail is not stroller friendly. Fee is $3 per person or $5 per family. Registration is required. Please call (518) 584-2000 Ext. 116 to register.

The winter world is full of natural beauty! This one hour program will teach young children how to use their senses to explore the outdoor world from the forest floor to the sky above. Join us by the fire to learn how some local wildlife species survive the cold temperatures before heading outside in search of animal tracks. A tracking craft will follow the outdoor lesson. Join the Park Naturalist on a moderate three mile hike along the Geyser Creek valley to learn about some of the plants and animals that live in the park. Please bring water and wear sturdy shoes for this 1.5 hour hike. Icy conditions will cancel the event. This event is free. Please call 518-584-2000 Ext. 116 to register.
