Maple Syrup Workshop

Have you ever wondered who the first person to discover maple sap was, why sap flows out of the trees, or how to make maple syrup? Come find out at our maple syrup workshop where we will learn about the history and science behind maple tapping, as well as the process of making maple syrup. Samples will be available in limited quantities.

 Appropriate for all ages. Registration is required. Fee is $3 per person or $5 per family.

Geyser Creek Fish Stocking

Moving day is approaching for approximately 700 trout. On Wednesday, April 8th, at 11:00 a.m. children and their families are invited to help release the trout into Geyser Creek, located in the Geyser Picnic Area of Saratoga Spa State Park.

Technicians from the Van Hornesville Fish Hatchery, operated by the Department of Environmental Conservation, stock the area streams each year with the help of volunteers. Please bring a bucket and join us in introducing the trout to their new home! This year's activities include demonstrations, environmental displays and food. This event is free. No registration is required for this event. For more information, please call 584-2000.

Various projects - all will meet at the lawn area near Administration Building. Gloves advised for all activities.

1: Volunteers will help to clean up the Peerless Pool all ages welcome. Please bring your own rakes, shovels & bug spray.

2: Volunteers will spread stone dust at 2 different locations, appropriate for ages 13 & up. Please bring water, shovels, stone rakes & bug spray.

3: Volunteers will spread woodchips, all ages welcome. Please bring water, rakes, shovels & bug spray.

4: Volunteers will assemble a picnic table. Ages 18 and up.

5: Volunteers will plant shrubs, trees & flowers & assist with invasive species removal. All ages. Poison ivy may be present in some areas.

6: Clean-up at various locations. All ages. Poison ivy may exist in some areas. Rakes advised, the park will have limited tools.

7: All ages welcome to spread mulch over garden areas. Rakes & shovels advised, the park will have limited tools.

8: Clean up the Administration building perimeter, including sweeping arcades. Brooms are advised, the park will have limited tools.
