This engaging family program is designed with your little ones in mind. A naturalist will guide you on our trails, pointing out special things along the way. Your child will be encouraged to share what they have just learned with their favorite toy.

Paint your papier mache planet and glow in the dark stars, and put them together to make a unique mobile to take home. (You must have participated in Part One to participate in this portion of the program.

I Love My Park Day

Join us at Caleb Smith State Park Preserve to celebrate the third annual I Love My Park Day! I Love My Park Day is an exciting statewide event to improve and enhance New York's parks and historic sites and bring visibility to the entire park's system and its needs.

From 10 AM to 3:30 PM, various volunteer projects around the park will be offered, including planting perennial flowers, planting new trees, and park clean-up. All ages are welcome to participate. Those who are interested should meet at the park office, and should please bring water and garden gloves. The park will provide appropriate tools.

Enjoy a unique workshop to design your very own walking stick. Sticks, carving tools, wood burners and decorative materials will be provided (you may bring your own tools). We will share out beading and leather working techniques with you. Bring something you might like to incorporate to make your walking stick one of a kind. If you have been to a previous clinic, you may bring your walking stick back to add more designs!

Discover what types of frogs live at the preserve inside. We will then do some scooping from Willow Pond outside so you can see tadpoles in various states of metamorphosis up close! Hopefully we will catch a few frogs too!
