Path Thru History Weekend: Farm Day in the City

In conjunction with Path Through History Weekend, Schuyler Mansion invites the public to attend Farm Day in the City and experience a farm market atmosphere in the south end of Albany! 

Meet the animals that Philip Schuyler would have kept on his farm and learn about agricultural practices of the 18th century. Oxen, sheep, and heritage breed poultry will be among the livestock on display, as well as pony rides for children. Demonstrations will include sheep herding dogs, sheep shearing, and the hauling capability of oxen, the beasts of burden of the 18th century. Also a maple syrup producer, Indian Ladder farms will demonstrate the art of fruit tree grafting, while Cabot Cooperative Creamery shows how products are made from cow's milk. Cornell Cooperative Extension and local 4 H groups will be on hand with exhibits and a discussion of the gardening work on the property. Music will be provided by Katie Boardman of First Frost Traditions.

This event is free and open to the public.

In addition, Schuyler Mansion will be available for Open House (self-guided) tours at a reduced admission price of $3.00. Visitors may take this opportunity to tour Philip Schuyler's elegant 18th-century home at their leisure.

Enjoy an early American July 4th celebration on the grounds of Schuyler Mansion. Games and performers from the 18th century, as well as activities and ice cream will be free of charge to commemorate this important holiday. The mansion will be available for Open House (self-guided) tours at a $3.00 per person admission rate.

Through the influence of Philip Schuyler and his position as director of the Western and Northern Inland Lock Navigation Companies, development of New York State's important canal system was begun. Learn about his role within the history of the Erie Canal. Please check back for tours times and price.

Do you believe in ghosts? The people of 18th century Albany did! Join us around the campfire as we examine what ghost stories and visions of "specters" and "apparitions" tell us about beliefs during Philip Schuyler's time. Mulled cider and refreshments. Admission: Suggested donation of $2.00 per person. Outdoor program – please bring lawn chairs and dress for the weather.

Reservations required. Please note: In the event of rain, program will be held indoors with limited seating.

An evening of merriment for everyone! Special Twelfth Night festivities will highlight the holiday season as it may have been celebrated by the Schuyler family in the 18th century. Come and revel in the holiday traditions of Albany's past with live music, bonfires, traditional fare and wassail toasts! Then cross the river where the celebration continues at Crailo!
