Bring your inner fashionista to Planting Fields to celebrate the opening of our exhibition on Millicent Rogers, niece of Mai Rogers Coe. Millicent was a stylish heiress to the Standard Oil fortune of her grandfather, H. H. Rogers, and dated men such as Clark Gable and Ian Fleming (Author of James Bond), married and divorced a Count and a wealthy Argentine; helped design her own clothes, jewelry and car; and was a humanitarian during World War II. Creative dress encouraged for this evening of fun and glamour. Wine and cheese will be served.

Author Cherie Burns gives a dynamic lecture on her book, Searching for Beauty, about the fascinating Millicent Rogers. Rogers' brief life was filled with stories of encounters with fashion designers, celebrities, romances, scandal, and a life lived in the pages of every newspaper and magazine across the globe. Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the event, ready to be signed by the author.

Millicent Rogers collected the paintings of landscape artists such as Monet and Gauguin. Celebrate the landscapes of Planting Fields with Salmagundi Club plein-air artist Annie Shaver-Crandell who will lead students through gardens and quiet places, while portraits of people, trees, and flowers inspire. Medium is students choice (watercolor, oil or acrylic); instructions and suggested materials list will be provided upon registration. Bring a bag lunch or purchase snacks at the café.
