New York's State Parks...Fun and Games!

With a network of the nation's finest 200 state parks and historic sites, what more could you ask for in a state park system? How about the nation's largest and finest amateur sports competition? That's the Empire State Games' programs. Four distinct programs, four wonderful opportunities to compete, and four Games taking in all ages and abilities.

The Empire State Games (summer competition) was the first statewide amateur sports program in the nation. Now, with 28 sports for New York's finest athletes, the Empire State Games is one of the largest and finest amateur sports competitions in the country. Thousands compete in regional trials across the state to be one of nearly 6,000 finalists at the Summer Games, bringing participants, spectators and considerable economic benefits to the host city and colleges.

Binghamton & Broome County will host the 2008 Empire State Games, July 23-27.

The Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged offer opportunities in the joy of self-accomplishment in a variety of sports for youngsters with physical challenges as they strive to be the best they can be. Games are held on Long Island and in Brockport, with various clinics statewide.

Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged 2008 - Dates: Long Island; May 29-31 and Brockport, October 17-18.

The Empire State Senior Games bring to life its motto, "You don't stop playing when you grow old; you grow old when you stop playing." The Senior Games, for men and women 50 and older, are held at SUNY Cortland with a wide variety of sports, clinics, activities and social events. They also are the only New York State qualifier for the National Senior Sports Classic.

The 2008 Senior Games will be conducted June 3-8.

The Empire State Winter Games make the beautiful Adirondack village of Lake Placid the winter place to be, with 11 sports in Olympic-style competition and plenty of things to see and do around town. Many of the same venues used in the 1980 Winter Olympic Games are enjoyed by Games' participants and spectators alike, with some of the finest athletes in the state competing.

The 2008 Empire State Winter Games will take place February 22-24.
